Running Linux on a multiprocessor system

Intel and AMD are racing to provide hardware and software that will use multiple processors.  Intel recently acquired Cilk Arts to get access to their multicore software technology.

I'm currently running SETI@Home on a 8-way Intel Core i7 cpu.  The machine is roughly 10x as fast at this kind of processing as a mid-level machine purchased just 18 months ago.

As amazing as the multicore CPUs is, the memory bandwidth of the newer Intel socket (called LGA 1366) is truly amazing.
