type='text'>Running Linux on a multiprocessor system</title><content type='html'>Intel and AMD are racing to provide hardware and software that will use multiple processors.&amp;nbsp; Intel recently acquired Cilk Arts to get access to their multicore software technology.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I'm currently running SETI@Home on a 8-way Intel Core i7 cpu.&amp;nbsp; The machine is roughly 10x as fast at this kind of processing as a mid-level machine purchased just 18 months ago.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;As amazing as the multicore CPUs is, the memory bandwidth of the newer Intel socket (called
